Creativity is looking where everyone else looks and seeing what no one else sees.

Call it a mantra, a motto, or a slogan; for me, it’s simply the principle I live by.

Since I started my creative journey back in 1998, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to build visual identities that truly mean something. My path hasn’t been a straight line—it’s taken me through the high-pressure world of daily newspapers and advertising agencies, into the precision-driven halls of Big Pharma, and across the desks of global corporations and solo entrepreneurs alike. I’ve spent the last 26 years learning that whether you are a global giant or a startup of one, the goal is the same: creating a distinctive brand that connects with people and helps a business grow.

If every graphic has a story, then I am a Visual Storyteller, and this is mine… well, at least part of it.

If you enjoy a good story, grab a cup of your favorite liquid fuel and settle in. It will only take a couple of minutes—I promise. Let’s get to know each other.

My name is Axel Febles. I am a Brand and Visual Systems Architect, don’t misunderstand the term, ok, in other words; a Designer, but once you’ve finished reading my story, you’ll see why I call myself an Architect. I help companies, startups, and individuals transform complex ideas into clear visual communications. My goal is to bridge the gap between ideas, strategies, and purposes, connecting them directly with people. My work lives at the intersection of brand development, visual systems, user experience, and communication design—places where clarity and consistency help both businesses and individuals grow more effectively. To me, design is about making things clearer, more meaningful, and more useful for the people who interact with them.

I’ve always loved designing and building things. When I was little, I didn’t play with Legos like other kids; I preferred “grown-up” tools. I’d grab my grandfather’s saws and hammers and use them to actually build things. A few years later, that same drive remains: now I refine, perfect, and shape brands, creating solutions that help companies thrive. As a kid, I used to build rockets and remote-controlled cars, winning races with them while my friends played with Star Wars figures and Hot Wheels. I liked the toys too, but I preferred the complexity of seeing the results of something I built myself.

That technical curiosity led me to study civil engineering. I drew up architectural house plans and blue prints and gained a deep understanding of technical and engineering principles—knowledge I still draw on extensively in my creative career. Halfway through, however, I changed course and embarked on a creative journey that took me through newspaper rotary presses, advertising agencies, interactive firms, and offset and flexographic printing shops. I even spent years creating digital art and advertising for major pharmaceutical companies.

Creating and building is simply what I do. Throughout my career, I have built and led in-house creative teams, collaborated with decision-makers across various departments, and helped align business objectives with effective design solutions. Building on a design career launched in 1998, I have balanced freelance versatility with high-responsibility leadership roles. I have managed creative departments and directed art for everything from interactive media to complex industrial production.

As a designer and visual communicator, I’ve collaborated with videographers, producers, copywriters, web developers, and motion artists to execute compelling design solutions for diverse industries. I develop the creative briefs, storyboards, and visual strategies that bring persuasive ideas to life. I’ve worked with a global range of clients—from pharmaceutical giants to local startups and solo entrepreneurs. Working under pressure in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments has shaped me into a dynamic team player with strong leadership and people management skills.

As the industry and market evolve with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), I have expanded my competencies toward human-centered product design (UX) driven by this technology. My goal is to lead the adoption of these emerging tools, enabling the companies I collaborate with to adapt with agility and maintain a competitive advantage in a shifting landscape.

My professional toolkit is broad, covering art and creative direction, logo and brand identity design, and branding strategies. I also dive deep into the technical side: packaging design, UX/UI, photography, color management, and photo retouching. I have a deep understanding of digital, offset, and flexographic printing, as well as a sharp eye for typography and text editing. I truly enjoy the entire spectrum of the work—from the initial conceptual idea to long-term campaign strategies—and I find great fulfillment in mentoring teams to help them reach their full potential in a collaborative environment.

I’m particularly passionate about turning complexity into clarity. Whether I’m developing branding systems, designing digital experiences, or communicating technical information visually, I am motivated by work that fosters connection and easy access to information. I take immense pride in creating designs that are both visually beautiful and genuinely useful.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication and Design, along with professional certifications in UX/UI from the Interaction Design Foundation. With a background spanning commercial printing, marketing, and healthcare, I lead creative initiatives that strengthen brand positioning and streamline operations.

Today, I’m still writing this story. It would be a pleasure to help you write yours.

Let’s work together

If, after reviewing my work, you think we’d make a good team, I’d be happy to speak with you.

Please send me an email with a brief description of your company and the qualifications, skills, or requirements you’re looking for in a graphic designer. That way, we can schedule a call or a meeting (or you can go ahead and call me directly). If you’re in the San Juan metropolitan area, we could meet for coffee and discuss how we might work together.
